Economic Development Strategy

The Shuswap Economic Development Society (SEDS) is leading the creation of a new Economic Development Strategy. This will be used to shape our community’s future, and we want to hear from you! This strategy is being developed for SEDS to provide effective, strategic, and beneficial economic development services for Electoral Areas C (South Shuswap), D (Deep Creek/Salmon Valley/Falkland), and F (North Shuswap) within the Columbia Shuswap Regional District.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Economic Development Strategy will provide a 3–5 year roadmap of achievable goals and implementable actions towards the community’s vision of a diverse, resilient local economy. With your input, the Strategy will tackle questions like “What strengths do we have that we should build on? How do we keep our community attractive for families and young people, local businesses, and tourists alike? What kinds of jobs do we want to have in the future?”

HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO IT?

This process will take place between June and December of 2022 and include four phases:

  • Phase 1: Where are we now? (Key Issues, Trends, and Priorities)
  • Phase 2: Where do we want to go? (Visioning and Objectives)
  • Phase 3: How do we get there? (Actions and Strategies)
  • Phase 4: Have we arrived? (Implementation and Monitoring)

Engagement will be key throughout the process to ensure that the Strategy is driven by the needs and values of Shuswap Areas C, D, and F residents, local First Nations, stakeholders, businesses, and leaders.

This work is being supported by a community planning consultant, EcoPlan International, in collaboration with SEDS Staff and Task Force.
