Regional Resources

The Shuswap is already an attractive place to visit, live, and work, thanks to incredible natural surroundings, easy access to quiet countryside and bustling towns, and a mix of well established local industries and smaller businesses.

But we want to keep growing each of these assets. Two important documents have recently been produced for the Shuswap, articulating a long-term vision and strategies for the industries for which we’re known best: agriculture and tourism.

The Shuswap Agricultural Strategy, published in June 2014, sets ambitious goals for the region’s agricultural industry, envisioning a sector that continues to thrive, innovate, and play an important role in a vibrant regional economy. The strategy document explains the cultural and economic context of the Shuswap’s agricultural industry, identifies challenges and opportunities, recommends best practices, and provides suggestions for implementation. It is a current, useful resource for anyone considering investing and participating in the Shuswap’s agricultural industry.

The Shuswap Tourism Development Plan, published in 2010, articulates a vision for tourism in the region, based on principles of sustainability, embracing culture and sport, promoting four-season tourism, investing in quality infrastructure, and taking a regional approach. It identifies strengths and gaps in the existing tourism industry, defines specific actions and tactics, and notes opportunities for growth in particular sectors and areas across the Shuswap.
