NEWS RELEASE: Shuswap Economic Development Society continues to serve the rural Shuswap into the future... Read More
A healthy and resilient economy is the result of many voices working in harmony, with community organizations, leaders, and government partners all playing a key role. By collaborating and supporting one another, we shape a stronger future for our region.
Our greatest strength comes from partnership. Progress happens when local governments, Indigenous communities, regional districts, businesses, and non-profit organizations work together with a shared vision. When we combine our ideas and skills, we can identify opportunities, face challenges, and build conditions where people and businesses can thrive.
Support from all levels of government is an important part of this work. While funding programs are helpful, the most meaningful support often comes through participation. When government representatives attend meetings, take part in community discussions, and listen to local experiences, it helps connect policies with the real needs of rural communities. Their involvement builds understanding and creates pathways for better planning and decision-making.
This kind of engagement has shaped many of the initiatives moving forward in the Shuswap. Whether it involves improving broadband access, supporting local trades, or exploring new ways to attract investment, the willingness of government partners to work alongside us strengthens every project. Collaboration ensures that local priorities line up with regional and provincial goals, which helps move ideas from planning to action.
Events like the Shuswap Innovation, Research and Economic Summit (SIRES) and the Salmon Arm Business Forum highlight the importance of bringing people together. These gatherings connect business leaders, community groups, and governments in conversations about the future of our region. More importantly, they give people the chance to share ideas openly and build relationships that lead to real results. When people understand each other’s perspectives, new partnerships and opportunities begin to take shape.
As we look ahead, we know our strength will continue to come from the people who choose to get involved. Our board of directors is an important part of guiding our work, and we are actively seeking new directors who are passionate about shaping the future of the Shuswap. People with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to consider stepping forward. A strong board reflects the community it serves and helps ensure that local voices are heard.
We also welcome participation from businesses, organizations, and residents who want to support local projects or explore new ideas. When more people take part in conversations about growth and opportunity, our region becomes stronger and more adaptable. Collaboration is not only valuable for the projects we lead today. It also lays the groundwork for future success by building connections and trust across sectors.
Economic development is ultimately about people. It is about building relationships, supporting local ideas, and creating opportunities that allow our communities to grow. With continued participation from governments at all levels and the dedication of our local partners, the future of the Shuswap remains bright.
